Film Node Zlín

The Film Node building underwent reconstruction. It was commissioned by the Baťa company between 1935 and 1936. The name “Film Node” comes from Hermína Týrlová’s film “The Knot in the Handkerchief” and also refers to the symbolism of connection and meeting of creative activities. Hermína Týrlová and Karel Zeman are just two names among the personalities of Czech cinematography who worked here. Oscar-winning director Elmar Klos, composer Zdeněk Liška, children’s film creator Josef Pinkava and many others worked in the same premises. It’s particularly popular with the public at weekends, whilst during the week school excursions and those interested in animation and film visit. Last year, the Node welcomed over 40,000 visitors.

Since spring 2018, Film Node Zlín has been a member of the Animated Film Association. Famous films such as The Fabulous World of Jules Verne, Journey to the Beginning of Time, Ferda the Ant and many others were created in the local studios. Film Node produces animated music videos for the cimbalom band Harafica, contributed to the publication of a book about Hermína Týrlová, and co-produces the Czech film The Smiles of Sad Men. It also collaborates on various projects with students from Tomáš Baťa University in Zlín and other schools.
