Vincentka is Luhačovice's most famous mineral spring, known since 1680 and named after Count Vincent Serényi in 1792. It is the only spring in the resort that is bottled and commercially produced. The healing water is recommended for respiratory diseases, metabolic disorders, and gastric conditions, and is taken daily on an empty stomach.
The largest Moravian spa resort Luhačovice is renowned primarily for its healing mineral springs and the buildings designed by the famous architect Dušan Jurkovič. These springs are visited by thousands to tens of thousands of people annually. The most famous healing springs are Vincentka, Aloiska, Ottovka and the Dr František Šťastný Spring, which are freely accessible to the public. Other springs in use include St Joseph’s Spring, Elektra, Viola and the New Jubilee Spring, which is located next to the Community House on Spa Square.
The most celebrated spring is undoubtedly Vincentka, which flows in the hall next to the Luhačovice colonnade. It is the only spring that is bottled and used to manufacture various products. Historically, Vincentka was served at the imperial court and in Viennese coffee houses. The spring was known as early as 1680 as the “Main Spring” and was renamed to its current name in 1792 after Count Vincent Serényi. The spring is dispensed to visitors from a serving counter in the hall, where it can also be heated.
The healing water is used primarily for drinking cures and inhalation. It should be taken daily on an empty stomach. It is recommended for respiratory tract diseases, vocal cord conditions, metabolic disorders, gastric and duodenal ulcers and post-operative conditions, chronic liver enlargement, diabetes mellitus, and chronic pancreatitis. This water helps regenerate the body’s internal environment during significant fluid loss through perspiration and regulates metabolism after alcohol excess. It has an increased content of boric acid, fluorides and barium. One sip of Vincentka is sufficient to meet the daily iodine requirement and is suitable as a natural nutritional supplement for athletes, children, pregnant women and convalescents.
Vincentka makes an excellent gift or souvenir that you can take home from your stay in Luhačovice. You can purchase the mineral water in bottles, as well as a range of products containing Vincentka. It is added as a concentrated salt to lozenges, toothpastes, syrups, moisturising creams and Vincentka sprays. The lozenges are particularly appreciated in the Czech Republic by artists and people who work with their voice – singers, actors, presenters, announcers and teachers. Vincentka is also popular in China. Traffic police officers there use it during work through inhalers, as it helps them remove smog particles from their airways (by coughing up mucus).
