The spa town boasts a handful of remarkable baroque sculptures, monuments and busts. Although they aren’t the main attractions in the town, they add to its picturesque character. They can be found throughout the town, so visitors can admire them whilst strolling around the Spa Square near the spa colonnade.

Monument with the Statue of MUDr. František Veselý

The statue was crafted in 1925 from white natural crystalline marble, and its creator is the folklorist Franta Úprka. It stands near the Vincentka mineral spring close to the spa colonnade. It’s hidden beneath an enormous willow tree in the shade. The statue is life-sized, dressed in a suit with waistcoat and shirt. The monument became a cultural heritage site in 1958. František Veselý was a doctor and also the person who contributed to the flourishing of the spa. From 1902 to 1907, he became the spa director. During these years, the joint-stock company purchased the spa from Count Serényi.

Bust of Leoš Janáček

The bust is located on a hillside near the Inhalatorium. It’s made of marble and bronze dating from 1954. Its creator is Karel Pokorný. Leoš Janáček was a regular visitor to Luhačovice. In nearby Augustiniánský, he wrote the famous Glagolitic Mass. The bust of Leoš Janáček regularly serves as the opening venue for the Janáček and Luhačovice Festival.

Saint Gotthard

Spa guests will find the first baroque statue near the Castle Garden of the Serényis. It’s located in a pleasant corner. Here hides the statue of St. Gotthard, the first baroque saint. He was a renowned monastic reformer. Saint Gotthard is the patron of masons and travellers, helper against gout, childhood diseases and difficult childbirth, and last but not least, also protector against lightning, hail and natural disasters.

St. John of Nepomuk

In the same area, one can also find the statue of St. John of Nepomuk. According to the inscription on the pedestal, it dates from 1754. The sculpture stands in quite an inconspicuous spot at a small crossroads. Not many tourists wander here unless they’re staying in the area. John of Nepomuk is a martyr of the Catholic Church and one of the Czech national patrons.

Woodcarving Symposium

A gathering of artistic woodcarvers regularly takes place in the spa town near the music pavilion. Guests can admire the artists’ work here. Throughout the duration of the event, many sculptures and wooden objects are created. Each year there’s also a specific theme, after which visitors can view the resulting sculptures at a vernissage. This year’s event should take place in June.
