Many buildings created by the Slovak architect Dušan Jurkovič give Luhačovice the authentic atmosphere of Moravia’s greatest spa town. Visitors surely remember buildings such as Jurkovič HouseSluneční and River Baths or Jestřábí standing in the rear part of the spa park. Besides these few buildings, we can find other important works by this artist here.

Chaloupka

Villa Chaloupka is located in the pleasant park environment, near the spa colonnade and Jurkovič House. Dušan Jurkovič built this representative structure at his own expense in 1902. He converted the kitchen house into today’s well-known villa. The brick ground floor was combined with a log wooden extension with balconies. The roof with broken dormers and gables, similar to Jurkovič House, extensively develops elements of Carpathian architecture. Chaloupka serves as accommodation and offers its guests lodging in two luxury apartments with period furniture. Villa Chaloupka is a protected monument.

Villa Vlastimila

The villa was one of the first buildings that gave impetus to the development of the Prague Quarter. It was built in 1903. Jurkovič constructed the villa for his acquaintance F. Pospíšil. The villa is quite inconspicuous as the distinctive Villa Valaška towers beside it. Modern elements were applied here in combination with Art Nouveau motifs and naturalistic elements. In 1905, the prominent Czech composer Leoš Janáček even stayed here, contemplating his opera – Fate. After the outbreak of the First World War, opera singer Gabriela Horvátová kept him company here. A year later, he wrote – The Diary of One Who Disappeared here. The surroundings of the Prague Quarter and thus Villa Vlastimila was his most beloved and most productive place during his trips to Luhačovice. Today it serves as a facility for the youngest patients.
