Luhačovice Spa often becomes a city hosting participants of significant professional congresses. Diabetology Days is amongst the most extensive and traditional, with up to several hundred participants attending. This year will mark the 56th edition. The programme was due to begin on 1st April and continue until 4th April. Due to the current situation, the event has been postponed to an autumn date. In the tent by the post office building, the public can have their blood pressure, cholesterol levels and blood sugar measured. This is followed by a consultation with a nurse.
In previous years, there was an accompanying event called Run and Walk Against Diabetes, which members of the general public can also participate in. The congress itself is usually only accessible to registered doctors or nurses. It is regularly held at the Municipal Cultural Centre Elektra. Every year features a series of specialist doctors, lectures, panel discussions, recognition of the most significant professional works and presentations of top products from pharmaceutical companies. Each year also includes a lecture by a prominent international specialist.
The event aims to highlight active physical activities that are part of diabetes prevention, which unfortunately ranks among the ever-expanding lifestyle diseases. The running route is approximately a three-kilometre circuit through the spa complex, with both start and finish at the Elektra building. Participants will run along Nábřeží street, through Spa Square, past the Vincetka spring, the Social House and the Ottovka spring. Every running participant will receive a t-shirt with the event logo and a small gift upon completing the course.
