"The Constables from Luhačovice" is a Czech TV series set in 1919 that brought Luhačovice Spa international recognition. Luhačovice Spa successfully entered people’s consciousness thanks to the television series called The Constables from Luhačovice. The story of the constables, however, takes place not only in Luhačovice, but also in the surrounding villages that existed at the time. The plot is set in 1919. The First World War had ended, and T.G. Masaryk became president of the newly formed republic. Below are presented the places that viewers could see in the plot of this series. We had previously seen shots from Luhačovice in the series Constable Humoresques.

Bedřich Smetana House alias Hotel Popper

The first place we can see in the series is the so-called Hotel Popper alias Bedřich Smetana House – a comfortable Art Nouveau hotel located in the quiet centre of the spa complex. The splendid impression is enhanced by the Brussels Fountain, which is situated in front of the entrance. In the series, both its interior and exterior are captured. The building appears in almost every episode.

Spa Colonnade

The romantic colonnade, where young constables chase criminals, is located right in the centre of the spa next to Jurkovič House. During filming, spa guests occupied all the benches on the colonnade. However, no one was allowed to approach the fountain, just as no one could get close to Jurkovič House, which served as a backdrop for the filmmakers. The Spa Colonnade, also known as the Great Colonnade, was built between 1946 and 1952.

Sun Baths

During the seventh episode of the series, the constables visit the local Sun Baths. The camera captures the environment that served people for rest and relaxation. At that time, this work by Dušan Jurkovič was one of the most visited places in the spa. The lido included wooden loungers, gymnastics equipment and a volleyball court.

Spa Square

Shots capturing constables walking through Spa Square accompany viewers throughout the entire series. The square connects paths to Bedřich Smetana House, the Spa Colonnade and Jurkovič House. Behind the constables, you can see the fountain located in the middle of the square.
